THE CHALLENGE

For yet another year, Vodafone partnered with Wimbledon and Jaguar Range Rover to offer professional tennis players on-demand Wi-Fi and connectivity during their commutes to and from the Wimbledon Championships. Vodafone approached ID2 to create a video case study outlining how the hotspot technology works with the Smart Hub, how it is implemented, and how it could benefit other businesses and industries beyond this specific application at Wimbledon. With the tagline 'The Power of Connection,’ the video aimed to showcase Vodafone’s technology while adding a human and emotive aspect to the story.

THE CREATION

All good stories are driven by human and emotive elements, so we wanted to infuse the video with this, whilst also maintaining a focus on showcasing Vodafone’s technology. The ID2 team developed the tagline ‘The Power of Connection,’ which played on notions of both technological ‘connection’ and human ‘connection.’ We were able to develop a narrative framework that effectively demonstrated the Smart Hub technology, whilst keeping the audience engaged with emotional storytelling.

The story we chose to tell involved a ‘surprise’ scenario created for a young tennis player allowing her to meet professional Tim Henman via a tablet connection. The video culminated in the young player receiving a special tour of Wimbledon from Tim Henman in person, with some supplementary narration and interviews emphasising the benefits of the technology and Vodafone’s partnership with Wimbledon.

Creating the video involved a logistically complex two-day shoot, involving smooth driving shots in London, drone footage, and on-camera surprise reactions. Our crew remained tightly coordinated throughout, with everyone’s expertise and experience helping to create the absolute best content possible.

THE OUTCOME

The result was a brilliant, emotive video that truly showcased 'The Power of Connection' through Vodafone’s technology. We captured so much amazing content that we were able to create four social media clips, as well as our main ‘hero’ edit, for use on social platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn, giving the content even more reach. We also produced an ‘innovation’ video, highlighting more technical aspects of the Smart Hub technology itself and its potential benefits for other businesses. The ID2 team is incredibly proud to have developed and produced such a multifaceted project and are excited to engage in more projects like this in the future.
