THE CHALLENGE

Policing is a round-the-clock operation, requiring officers to maintain a visible presence within the public, to deter crime and be able to attend incidents at a moment's notice. Taking witness statements and filing often sees officers having to travel back to base to input the data, meaning increased commutes, more admin and less time out in the community.

West Midlands Police needed a solution that was secure, fast and mobile to help police officers better serve the public. Having already had a strong working partnership with Vodafone for their other solutions, they contacted them for advice.

THE CREATION

When Vodafone contacted us about showcasing this solution, the team went straight into their research. We looked through online documents and spoke with the account teams in detail to not only look at the work that had been done to mobilise the force but also to learn about the long-standing relationship that was already in place between Vodafone and West Midlands Police.

We worked with the digital team at West Midlands Police to discover what scenarios we could film to really showcase this mobilised solution. So, with the help of two police officers, a vehicle and someone to play the victim of a burglary, we set up all the necessary data and planned out the two days of filming in Birmingham HQ and surrounding areas.

THE OUTCOME

The end result was a 90-second case study narratively led by the Mobility and Automation Manager along with the forces Superintendent. The visual footage was led by scenarios of how a call would now be received, dealt with, and securely filed by our officers with supporting soundbites for credibility from Jason, who as an officer, uses the solution day to day.

The video became part of a campaign aimed at showcasing Vodafone's recognition as the “Best Network for Business.” Additionally, a shorter social edit was created to aid this campaign via social channels, with a particular focus on LinkedIn.

The hope is that other forces across the nation see the secure and efficient way West Midlands Police can now operate and choose Vodafone to enable them to achieve the same. The team at ID2 thoroughly enjoyed working on this case study, getting a glimpse of all the work that goes on behind the scenes to make our communities safer and are really proud of the outcome achieved.
