THE CHALLENGE

Microsoft have a presence at a number of global conferences throughout the year (Sibos, MWC, NRF to name a few!) showcasing their products and solutions to different audiences and verticals all across the world. Despite thousands of attendees at these events; logistics, timings and many other factors come into play as to why people can’t attend physically.

To combat this and reach as many people as they can across the globe, Microsoft wanted to invite their social media followers to engage and interact with them, as if they were at the event themselves.

The main aims of the video content we were commissioned to produce, were to be informative, relevant, engaging and more importantly, in the moment. So, the challenge for us as a crew was to ensure we filmed and edited the content into bite-sized chunks for delivery to the client that same day so they could post across a number of social platforms within 24 hours of the activity at the event.

THE CREATION

For each event, usually spanning over 3 days, we created a daily social overview video of what had happened at the event that day – major industry topics, new solutions and products on the market, keynote speakers, the insider information all wrapped with footage from the event. A small and agile crew consisting of a Producer, Camera Operator and Editor were given access to speakers and activity each day and edited all the content there on-site into a 2-3 minute video.

We worked closely with the client before the filming meaning that topics and interviewees were all agreed upon upfront, with music, branding etc chosen ahead of time to ensure we turned the videos around as fast as we could, without jeopardising quality. We also allowed for a degree of flexibility on the filming days, enabling us to capture extra speakers or specific ‘off the cuff’ soundbites throughout the event to enrich the video content further.

THE OUTCOME

Posted on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, less than 24 hours after the daily event, these social videos generated thousands of views per video from viewers who couldn’t attend the event in person but were keen to keep up with the latest trends. Each video showed a snapshot of what happened that day at the event, consisting of powerful soundbites from major players in the industry – all giving their insight first-hand. This creative was easily accessible to the audience and a quick win for the client. Their presence at the event was more far-reaching than just within the walls in which the event was held.
